What this one demands from the studio

The largest audience of any show recorded here, and the one that asks the most of the room. These are difficult conversations about loss and starting over, recorded in one sitting: no retakes, and nothing that can be fixed afterwards. The room has to be quiet enough that a person can drop their voice to a whisper and still be heard clearly.

Long-form interviews about real lives, the kind that need a room where nobody is in a hurry.

What this format demands

Not a report of one session: an analysis of what a show shaped like this one needs from a room. If your format looks like this, this is what it would run into here.

01

An interview where somebody may cry cannot be stopped to fix a mic. Both positions are live and monitored the whole time.

02

Long form means long takes. The recording has to hold for two hours without a card change or a battery swap.

03

When the voice drops to a whisper the room noise is what you hear. Treatment matters more here than another camera would.

04

The channel also publishes vertical clips, so the wide shot is framed leaving room to crop to 9:16 without cutting anyone.
